Its migration stopover sites are becoming local tourism magnets. Here at Lake Hornborga in Sweden, where each spring some 15,000 cranes come together, more than 150 000 people come to greet them. The biggest gatherings of cranes in Europe are at Hortobágy in Hungary, outside Berlin, as well as on the Baltic coast in Germany and around Lac-du-Der in France. In Hortobágy there were over 100,000 at one moment in 2009.
